The initiative develops an innovative educational collaboration with HEIs in Africa through implementing Enhanced Service Learning pedagogy/ESL. EDUCaseHANKEN’s approach follows the national objectives of EDUCase Platform, fostering innovative and educational case-based institutional collaboration between Finnish Higher Education Institutions/HEIs and HEIs in Africa. Through ESL, EDUCase HANKEN aims to develop a network of intra- and intercontinental actors that will work together for the production and dissemination of high-quality knowledge within the domain of addressing sustainable development challenges in a case/practical problem-oriented manner. EDUCase HANKEN’s significant innovative component is displayed in the multidimensional aspects of the project’s approach. That is, through ESL, EDUCase HANKEN not only aims to co-develop and disseminate knowledge but also plans to:

  • Enhance inter-institutional relationships between organizing and partner institutions.

  • Bring in private/public actors (such as innovation and entrepreneurial hubs, TVETs, NGOs) and governmental institutions (such as Ministries of Educations) as part of the production and dissemination of knowledge under ESL.

  • Enhance intra and intercontinental collaboration capacity among HEIs, non-governmental, governmental, public, and private actors through shared ESL projects.

  • Focus on HEI students as producers of cases and course materials.

  • Assist the development and networking of local public and private actors through collaborative research.
